COLORES Crochet Necklaces
A trick I learned from other authors is that it’s nice to have a “sideline” item available to catch the eye of potential browsers when you’re at an author event. Of course the main idea is for people to notice your books, but having something else on display may make the difference between a cruise-on-by and a stop-and-chat. In the biz, we call it having a gimmick.
The first time I tried this I sold more necklaces than books. In fact, I ran out of necklaces and spent the next week filling orders. I’m nothing if not a quick study, so I made sure to take plenty of inventory to the next event.
I even came up with a name for my creations: COLORES. This is pretty descriptive since they come in all the colors of the rainbow. They’re fun to make, too. I’ve worked on them in waiting rooms and on airplanes. While riding the Rail Runner to and from Santa Fe, I’ve even sold several to fellow passengers whose curiousity overwhelmed them. If my librarian/author career ever stops being fun I may just spend my days riding the rails, my crochet hook in my hand.
For more information on my necklaces, don’t hesitate to contact me.
They are also available at Hispaniae, a very colorful shop in Albuquerque’s charming Old Town.
